Scott, composer and professor of music theory and composition, joined the Ball State University School of Music faculty in 1970 and retired in 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music from California State College, Long Beach, and a Master of Music and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Iowa. During his tenure at Ball State, Scott authored all the music engineering technology curriculum, designed the Music Engineering Technology Studios on Bethel Avenue, and was a major part of the design of the current Music Technology Studios. At Ball State, Scott directed the Music Engineering Technology Studios, the Ensemble for New Music, and the annual Festival of New Music that presented concerts and lectures incorporating all aspects of contemporary performance. He taught composition, electronic and computer music, twentieth-century repertoire and literature, analytical techniques, and recording technology. He is particularly interested in jazz and improvisation, electronic modification of acoustic instruments, and composition systems. Scott studied composition with Stanworth Beckler, Leon Dallin, Robert Shallenberg, Richard Hervig and Kenneth Gaburo. His compositions range from solo and ensemble works to electronic-plus compositions and works involving multimedia. His current interest is in developing computer algorithms for composition and real-time performance. |
