Biography
John Fishell joins the School of Music in a contract faculty position. Along with teaching courses in the Music Technology program at BSU, he will supervise Central Recording Services in the School of Music and will work on collaborative projects on campus and in the industry. John is best described as having one foot in academia and the other as a professional recording engineer and producer. After earning a M.M. in Composition from James Madison University, he has held faculty positions within well-known music and audio recording programs - Middle Tennessee State University, University of Colorado-Denver, American University as well as with the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa. Professionally, John has recorded and produced a number of CD titles ranging from jazz (David Liebman, Mike Stern, Charlie Byrd) to rock (Earth to Andy, Everything, Pat McGee Band), as well as North Indian classical bansuri artist Deepak Ram. In 2004, the David Liebman Big Band CD titled "Beyond the Line" which John mixed, mastered and co-produced was nominated for a Grammy award in the "Best Instrumental Arrangement" category. John also stays busy writing and performing his own music.
