Since 1989, he has studied with John Mack, solo oboe emeritus of the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Clinch was the recipient of the Delaware Division of the Arts 1993 Individual Artist Fellowship and the 2003 Master Artist Fellowship.

Mr. Clinch also performs as principal oboist of the Opera Delaware Orchestra and as English hornist with the Harrisburg Symphony; he has previously performed as a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the South Dakota Symphony, the Toledo Symphony, and the Delaware Symphony, as an extra musician with the Milwaukee Symphony and Milwaukee Ballet, and as guest principal oboist with the Vancouver (BC) Symphony, the Utah Festival Opera Company, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Ballet. He is a member of Trio Arundel, along with his wife, hornist Cynthia Carr, and pianist Julie Nishimura; the trio has performed at the 2003 International Double Reed Society Conference, the 2001 International Horn Society Conference, the 1999 MTNA National Conference, and the 1997 NACWAPI Conference, in addition to recitals at the San Francisco Conservatory, Miami University of Ohio, University of Georgia at Athens, Emory and Henry College, Brevard College, St. Croix (USVI) Landmark Society, and in Watford, England. Previously, he has performed with the Ambrosian Winds, finalists in the 1985 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and toured throughout the midwest with the Dakota Wind Quintet, performing in recitals, master classes, and broadcasts over WFMT-Chicago and National Public Radio stations in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. He also enjoys performing on Baroque and Classical oboes with the period instrument groups Brandywine Baroque and Mélomanie.
