Biography
Joseph R. Scagnoli, a Hoosier from Logansport, Indiana, is Director of Bands, Professor of Music Education and Associate Director of the School of Music at Ball State University. He received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Ball State University and his doctorate in music education from Syracuse University. Scagnoli conducts the University Wind Ensemble and coordinates and supervises the performances of the Marching, Symphony and Concert Bands, as well as the Basketball Pep Band.

In addition to these duties, he teaches courses in conducting and music education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior to returning to his alma mater as Director of Bands in 1984, he served for six years as director of bands at Western Carolina University. He directed the All-American College Band at EPCOT Center, Disney World, Orlando, Florida, in its inaugural season (1983) and served for many years as a band consultant to Walt Disney World Productions. Scagnoli taught for sixteen years in the public schools of Indiana and New York, where he achieved national recognition with his Union-Endicott High School Band. He is the founder and music director of Indiana Ambassadors of Music. The IAM symphonic band and concert choir have toured Western Europe biennially since the group inception in 1996.

Scagnoli is a recipient of the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence and has served on several of the association committees and in elected positions. He has twice served as president of the Mid-American Conference Band Directors Association, is a past-president of the Indiana Music Educators Association, and is the Indiana state chairman for the College Band Directors National Association.

His professional memberships include the Music Educators National Conference, College Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, Indiana Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu Bandmaster Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Scagnoli is a popular guest conductor, adjudicator, clinician and consultant, having served in these capacities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
