Biography
Heather Platt joined the Ball State University School of Music faculty in the Autumn of 1994. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Canberra School of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Adelaide, and a Master of Philosophy and Ph. D. from the City University of New York.

A musicologist whose primary areas of interest are 19th Century lieder and 18th Century orchestral music, her dissertation on Brahms lieder won the inaugural Karl Geiringer Award for Dissertation Research. Her publications on Brahms lieder concern their text-music relationships and their critical reception in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Articles have appeared in Brahms Studies, The Journal of Musicology, The Compleat Brahms, All Kinds of Music: In Honor of Andrew D. McCredie, Newsletter of the American Brahms Society, Intgral, and Indiana Theory Review. Platt's book, Johannes Brahms: A Guide to Research, is to be published by Routledge as part of their Composer Resource Manual series. Her numerous reviews on Brahms and nineteenth-century lieder have appeared in Notes and The Pendragon Review.

Dr. Platt has read papers at national and international music theory and musicology conferences in the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia, and has served as managing editor of RILM Abstracts of Music Literature and Theory and Practice. She is currently a member of the Council of the American Musicological Society and Secretary to the Board of Directors of the American Brahms Society.
