She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Canberra School of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Adelaide, and a Master of Philosophy and Ph. D. from the City University of New York. A musicologist whose primary areas of interest are 19th Century lieder and 18th Century orchestral music, her dissertation on Brahms lieder won the inaugural Karl Geiringer Award for Dissertation Research and CUNY's Barry S. Brook Dissertation Prize. Her publications on Brahms’s lieder concern their text-music relationships and their critical reception in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Articles have appeared in The Cambridge Companion to the Lied, Brahms Studies, The Journal of Musicology, The Compleat Brahms, All Kinds of Music: In Honor of Andrew D. McCredie, Newsletter of the American Brahms Society, Intégral, and Indiana Theory Review. Platt’s book, Johannes Brahms: A Guide to Research, is part of Routledge's Composer Resource Manual series. Her reviews of publications concerning Brahms and nineteenth-century lieder have appeared in Notes The Pendragon Review, and Music and Letters. She has presented papers on Brahms, Wolf, and the orchestral suites of Fasch in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. Dr Platt has served as managing editor of RILM Abstracts of Music Literature and Theory and Practice. She is currently Secretary to the Board of Directors of the American Brahms Society. |
