Her teaching experience includes K-12 general and choral music in the public schools of Ohio and university-level teaching at the University of Arizona and Mississippi State University. She was a Visiting Scholar in Education at the University of NewCastle, NSW (Australia) in the Summer of 2002. Dr. Inks holds a bachelor of music education (piano) degree from Heidelberg College and Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in music education from the University of Arizona. At Ball State, Dr. Inks teaches undergraduate courses in elementary general music methods, introduction to music education, and specialized approaches in Dalcroze, Kodaly, and the Orff-Schulwerk. At the graduate level, she teaches courses in music teaching and learning and advises masters projects and dissertations. In addition, Dr. Inks coordinates all practicum and field experience assignments for music education including observations and student teaching. Dr. Inks research interests include active music listening strategies for the elementary setting, the writing process and reflection in the music classroom, and improvisatory activities for children. Her articles have appeared in Journal of Research in Music Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, General Music Today, and Teaching Music. Dr. Inks has been a featured speaker and presenter for music education conferences, Orff Schulwerk workshops, and reading/literacy conferences in several states. She maintains an active role in numerous professional organizations such as MENC where she serves as the North Central representative for the Society for General Music and was a member of the Vision 2020 commission. Dr. Inks is a member of the Desert Skies Symposium for Research in General Music and has served as a grant panelist for the National Endowment of the Arts. She is an active piano accompanist, curriculum consultant, and church musician. |
