Koriath is coordinator of graduate programs and professor of organ, church music, and harpsichord at the School of Music, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. Prior to joining the Ball State faculty in 1971, he was an instructor of music at Kent State University. He earned the associate degree at Concordia College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the bachelor's degree at Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, the master of divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis, and the doctor of musical arts degree in organ performance and church music from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. He received a diploma in harpsichord performance from the International Summer Music Academy, Mallorca, Spain. His teachers include Russell Saunders, Fernando Valenti, M. Alfred Bichsel, Robert Bergt, Paul Manz, Jack Ruhl, Herbert Neuchterlein, and James Engel. Koriath has given numerous organ recitals nationally and has appeared as soloist with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2001 he presented solo organ recitals for Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Other activities include building and restoring early keyboard instruments, providing consultations to churches on organ installations, and research in the areas of computer applications in the arts, keyboard studies, and issues in higher education. His research on the life and work of Walter E. Buszin, musician for the Lutheran church, was recently published by the Good Shepherd Institute, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. An organist and choirmaster at many churches throughout his career, he currently serves as organist and director of the Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church, Muncie. (PO) |
