Biography
In 2007, Peter Opie was appointed professor of cello at Ball State University, and became cellist of the American Piano Trio. He has performed as a recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral player in the U.S., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia and his native Great Britain and has been heard on WCLV in Cleveland, and Iowa Public Radio in both solo and chamber music performances. With the American Piano Trio he has performed at numerous universities in Indiana and Pennsylvania, the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and recently performed and taught in Russia as a guest at the "Eighth International Conservatoire Week" at the St. Petersburg State Conservatoire. Later this year, the trio will give a concert and master class tour of Korea and a CD of trios by American composers will be released. Formerly on the faculty of Eastern Michigan University, this season he will be giving cello master classes at Emory University, and University of North Carolina, Greensboro, judging competitions, performing solo recitals and coaching youth orchestras. His orchestral experience includes working with the Detroit Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and as principal cello of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Additionally he has taught at summer chamber music festivals in Pennsylvania, New York and Iowa. He holds degrees from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
