School of Music
Ball State University's master of music degree in piano performance and pedagogy requires 31-32 credit hours of study. Minimum course requirements are outlined below.

Piano Performance (11 Credit Hours) 

  • Applied Piano: three semesters--if the performance recital or lecture recital is not selected as the research option, then the student will demonstrate appropriate piano skills in a hearing or jury (6)
  • Ensemble: two semesters of chamber music or accompanying (2)
Performance Literacy (3 hours)


Piano Pedagogy (12 credit hours)

Academic Music: Music Theory/Music History (5-6 Credit Hours)  

  • One core theory course (2-3)
  • One core history course (3)
