Ball State University's master of music degree in music history and musicology requires 32 credit hours of study. Minimum course requirements are outlined below.

Prerequisite 

  • 10 semester hours of undergraduate music history--may be waived by exam or taken for undergraduate credit

Applied Music (2-5 hours)

Music History Electives (3-5 hours)

Music History (12 hours)


Required Music History (3 hours)


Research Project (3-6 hours)


Music Theory (4-6 hours)

 

A reading knowledge of a foreign language commonly used in musicology is required: German (recommended), French, Italian, or Spanish. This requirement may be met by the successful completion of a graduate reading course or an examination accepted by the department of the language selected.

 

* If the thesis option is selected, the registration should be spread over two semesters (3+3).
