Ball State University offers two master's degrees in music:

Master of Music
This degree offers in-depth study for students highly gifted in music performance, music composition, music teaching, or research. A variety of majors are available. MORE...

This is a general degree in music with a core of studies in music performance, music history and musicology, music theory, and music education. MORE...

All master's students must take core classes in music history and music theory, and they must complete a creative project recital, research methodology course plan, research paper, or thesis. A comprehensive oral exam is required during students' last term of study.

Graduate students who are teachers may professionalize the standard all-grade teaching certificate during their master's program in music.
