Program Overview
Graduate students following a conducting emphasis in their instrumental or choral music education program must take 12 credit hours of graduate conducting courses to complete their degree. These students study with the principal conductors of the major instrumental or choral ensembles and have the opportunity to conduct premier ensembles in their area of study.

At the undergraduate level, music education majors must take two conducting courses (beginning and intermediate) prior to their student teaching experience. An advanced conducting course also is available but not required. Students conduct a small instrumental or choral ensemble for the intermediate conducting course, while the advanced course provides the opportunity to conduct a large ensemble.

All undergraduate and graduate music students as well as non-music majors at Ball State can gain valuable performance experience by participating in our outstanding bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, and symphony orchestra.
