With a repertoire ranging from the styles of Jimmy Lunceford of the 1920s to Weather Report, Chick Corea, and Rob McConnell, the members of Ball State University's jazz studies program perform at high schools and colleges throughout Indiana and the Midwest.
The Jazz Lab Band, which is the top jazz band of three jazz ensembles in the School of Music, performs in venues ranging from formal Jazz Festival concerts to television performances and international tours to famous jazz festivals. The Jazz Lab Band is one of the School of Music's most popular touring ensembles.
An important part of the jazz program at Ball State includes the "Art of Jazz" series, which brings nationally known jazz artists to perform concerts and clinics on and off campus, and the "Dimensions in Jazz" high school jazz band festival held annually in the spring semester.
