By year 2005, all full-time tenured or tenure-track IUSM-Muncie faculty should be involved in research.
- A new facility has been built to house the IUSM-Muncie beginning in 2000. The facility contains new laboratory space for research.
- New faculty hired during the years 2000-005 will be expected to establish an independent and self-sustaining research program. Evidences of a successful research program include obtaining grant funds, publishing in refereed journals, presenting scientific findings at national and international meetings, and being cited frequently in Citation Index, etc. By 2005, about half of the faculty at the IUSM-Muncie during Academic Year 1998-99 will have been replaced.
- The IUSM-Muncie seeks to have 2/3 of its full-time faculty performing externally-funded research by 2005. All faculty without grant funds are expected to submit grant proposals each year. Salary increments are tied in part to research productivity. Faculty who need development to rejuvenate their research programs will be provided opportunities for such development.
- Relationships with Ball State University and home departments within the Indiana University School of Medicine will be fostered to encourage collaborative research efforts and the expansion of graduate programs.
- Faculty are encouraged to include money for postdoctoral fellows when writing grant proposals.
- A seminar program featuring outside speakers is being developed to encourage those active in research.
