Ball State University is a comprehensive regional university with more than 20,500 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled on and off campus. It is ranked as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive institution. The University's 1,035-acre residential campus is located about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Muncie, whose population is 70,000. The University Libraries consist of Bracken Library, its main collection, and two branch libraries, the Architecture Library and the Science-Health Science Library. Collection holdings exceed 1.5 million volumes and access to 90 academic databases. The University Libraries employ 70 support staff, 39 librarians including 3 librarian faculty members, 13 professional personnel, 4 part-time personnel, 7 graduate assistants, and 160 student assistants.
