John Straw has been in the archival profession for over 25 years.  He is currently

Assistant Dean for Digital Initiatives and Special Collections

in the Ball State University Libraries, where he has been since August 1998.  He also serves as Executive Secretary of the Friends of Bracken Library and as Project Coordinator for the Digital Media Repository.  Prior to coming to Ball State, John was Archivist for Student Life and Culture at the University of Illinois from 1991 to 1998; University Archivist at Virginia Tech from 1987 to 1991; and Archives Senior Assistant at Indiana University - Purdue University in Indianapolis from 1981 to 1987.  He has a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education and a Masters in Library Science, both from Indiana University.  John has published articles in library and archival journals and given many papers at professional conferences. He is the author of Dick Greene's Neighborhood: Muncie, Indiana (G. Bradley Publishing, St. Louis, 2000).   His most recent publications include a Catalog to John Steinbeck Material in the Ball State University Libraries and an article on the Middletown Studies Collection and Middletown Digital Archives in the September 2005 issue of the Indiana Magazine of History.  John is active in state, regional, and national professional organizations, and has served on local and state committees and taskforces dealing with digital library issues.
