General Information
"Any citizen of the State of Indiana (eighteen years of age or older) may borrow material from the University Library subject to the Library's circulation policies."*
Indiana residents who present a Resident/Affiliate Library Card may check out general circulation books and government publications at the Main Circulation Counter on the first floor in Bracken Library. In addition, they may check out general circulation books in the Architecture Library and the Science-Health Science Library. To obtain a Resident/Affiliate Library Card, a resident should present identification which includes a photo and date of birth, such as an Indiana driver's license, at the Main Circulation Counter in Bracken Library. The Resident/Affiliate Card is issued free of charge and may be used only by the cardholder in connection with a picture ID.

Borrowing Policy
- Materials located in Educational Resources Center, Archives and Special Collections Research Center, the Architecture Library's Visual Resources Collection, and Reserve materials may not be checked out with a Resident Card. Some materials may be available for in room use. Interlibrary Loan privileges are not extended to Resident card holders.
- Loan periods: General Collection and Music Collection books: 4 weeks, Government Publications: 2 weeks
- General Collection and Music Collection books are subject to recall by another user after two weeks.
- General Collection, Music Collection books and Government Publications will be immediately recalled if needed for course reserve.
Returns
Books may be returned at any circulation counter, or at the outside (24-hour) chutes west of each entrance to Bracken Library.
Books taken from any of the three return chutes at the beginning of each day are considered as returned the previous day that the library was open for business.
The prompt return of borrowed materials is necessary for effective library circulation service. All users are required to return borrowed materials promptly when they are due or are recalled.
Fines and Charges
Overdue, lost, or damaged materials are subject to the Fine and Cost Policy. Copies of the Fine and Cost Policy are available at all circulation counters, the Library Information rack in the main lobby of Bracken Library and by clicking on Fine and Cost Policy under the Related Links section of this page.
The following is a brief summary of the highlights of the Fine and Cost Policy as it pertains to general circulation materials overdue or lost:
- A $5.00 non-refundable fine will be assessed for each general circulation item on the 8th calendar day after the due date and on the 10th calendar day after the date specified in the recall notice.
- General circulation items not returned within 75 calendar days after the due date or 75 calendar days after the recall due date, will be declared lost, and the borrower will be assessed the current replacement cost.
- Damaged materials will be repaired at the library user's expense; if damaged materials are beyond repair, the library user will be charged the current replacement cost.
- All fines and costs are payable at the Bursar's Office in Lucina, Room B-31.

Closing Time
Users are requested to anticipate the closing of the building at the end of the day. All materials should be checked out at least five minutes before the closing time.
