Cardinal Scholar, Ball State University's institutional repository, is an accessible digital archive of scholarly and artistic materials produced by the Ball State University community. The intention of Cardinal Scholar is to promote open scholarly communication, preserve access to scholarly work produced at Ball State University, and promote Ball State University's intellectual capital to a worldwide audience of Web users. The materials are available to users for no charge through Internet search engines as well as the University Libraries' Web site.
Cardinal Scholar includes both published and unpublished articles, lectures and other presentations, reports, papers, and any other material that faculty and students choose to add. Supported formats range from text to video to maps to photographs of artwork. Ball State University faculty, students, and staff members are encouraged to add material to Cardinal Scholar through our easy-to-use interface. Cardinal Scholar is powered by EPrints 3, open-source software developed by the University of Southampton and one of the world's most popular and user friendly software options for institutional repositories.

SSL Module Implementation
The installation and activation of the SSL certificate is necessary to support secure access control for BSU computer usernames. Use of a certificate was purchased from University Computing Services in December 2007. System admin personnel in LITS are working on implementing the certificate module. A challenge is that EPrints is running on an Apache Server on a Windows 2003 Server.
BSU Computer Username Credentials
Definition: Replace the default user account function in EPrints with an LDAP module that authenticates using Ball State University Computer Usernames.
The use of BSU credentials to manage access to Cardinal Scholar is a desire of the CS (Cardinal Scholar) working group.
