Biographical Note
Frederic W. Goudy was a renowned American type designer. Born in Bloomington, Illinois, he designed his first typeface in 1896, titled Camelot. Goudy insisted on creating all of his typefaces by hand in an era when mechanization was beginning to become popular. He operated out of Marlboro, New York where he built his Village Press Shop. Goudy died in 1947. By the end of his life he had created 122 typefaces and published 59 literary works.
Scope and Contents
This collection includes documents and photographs pertaining to the life and work of Frederic W. Goudy. The documents include Goudy’s correspondence, typeface sketches, and awards. Photographs contain images of Goudy at work, his exhibits, and Marlboro, New York where his shop was located.
