Latin-American and Latino/a Studies Program
The Latin-American and Latino/a Studies Program is designed to provide an advanced introduction to the richness, diversity, and complexity of Latin-American cultures, societies, political and economic structures, and ecologies.

The LAS minor requires 15 credit hours.  Also, students must demonstrate competence equivalent to two years of university-language study in Spanish or Portuguese (the Portuguese language requirement can be met only by exam).  The Spanish requirement can be fulfilled by completing a two-year course sequence through the SP 202 level, or by testing.

Why a minor in Latin American and Latino/a Studies at Ball State?

The Hispanic population in the United States is rapidly expanding.  In addition, Latin-America and the growing Hispanic community in the United States are gaining economic importance as well.  Increasingly, employers are hiring professionals who understand Latin-American and Latino cultures and issues.

Latin-American and Latino/a Studies at Ball State University offers a broad interdisciplinary program designed to provide an advanced introduction to the richness, diversity and complexity of Latin-American cultures, societies, political and economic structures, and ecologies. The Latin-American and Latino/a Studies curriculum at Ball State is formulated so that students will emerge with solid knowledge about Latin-America.
