Department Scholarships
Modern Languages and Classics Scholarship (All languages): A total of three prizes awarded to one student demonstrating achievement and ability in each one of the following languages taught at Ball State: Modern, Classical, and Asian; preference given to foreign language teaching majors.
Robert S. Sears Memorial Scholarship (German): For a student with outstanding achievement in German, with preference given to students majoring in German in combination with another language.
Eugene & Mary Herrman Memorial cholarship (German): An outstanding German major with a strong interest in conversational German, with a 3.0 GPA overall.
Burkhardt Foreign Language Scholarship (All languages): An outstanding Foreign Language major or minor who has completeed a 300 or 400 level class in that language, with a 3.5 GPA overall; financial need is not a requirement; consideration given to exceptional achievement in Modern Languages as well as demonstrated leadership in departmental or professional activities.
Nicole King Scholarship for Foreign Study (All languages): A junior or senior with a major or minor in Modern Languages and Classics, who will be a participant in a university approved study abroad program, with a 3.5 departmental GPA or 3.3 GPA overall; consideration given to those with demonstrated leadership in departmental or professional activities.
Vicki Yoakum Burton Scholarship Fund (Spanish): An undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Spanish with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with preference given to students demonstrating financial need; however, other qualified students will also be eligible.
Edward Kadletz Memorial Prize: A student, who has studied two or more years of Greek and is a Modern Languages and Classics major; awarded solely on the basis of merit.

Undergraduate Fellowship Program ($800): Designed to enrich contact between outstanding undergraduates and productive faculty. Contact the Ball State University Honors College office by telephone (317-285-1024), fax (317-285-2072), or visit the Honors College office in Carmichael Hall, room 104.

Scholarships are awarded during the spring of each year. A few scholarships are available to advanced level majors and minors in various language areas.
