Rose, M.A. (2008). EnviroTech: Enhancing the Environmental Literacy of Technology Teachers. Partial funding  by the United States Envrionmental Protection Agency under assistance agreement NE00E48901-0. (Additional information available at http://envirotech.iweb.bsu.edu

Description: EnviroTech is a professional development project of the Department of Technology at Ball State University (BSU). The mission is to enable and facilitate a critical examination of a contemporary issue that will ultimately enhance both the environmental literacy and technological literacy of 20 technology teachers and their students. Teachers will meet once-a-month in five synchronous Webinars to with guest speakers who will discuss environmental processes and technology assessment. During the latter third of the project, teachers will implement a guided-inquiry experience with their technology students in their home school. Two essential questions will focus the experiences for both teachers and their students:

  1. How might replacing incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) impact the environment and society?
  2. What strategies might individuals and communities use to reduce the negative impacts of replacing incandescents with CFLs?

Learn more about the EnviroTech Project, its instructional resources, and the impacts of adopting CFLs
