Creating an Enhanced Podcast
A "enhanced" podcast incorporates still images, chapters, and URL's with the audio in order to "enhance" or support the audio content.
We will be showing you how to use Apple's Garageband to create an enhanced podcast. If your new to Garageband and need some help getting started recording audio please visit the Creating a Audio Podcast page for an overview.
NOTE: It is recommended that you first record your audio before adding any elements to enhance your podcast episode. This will help in alleviating any stress in audio and image synchronization.
1). Record your audio.
2). To add images to Garageband you can drag images directly from a disk, from a folder on your computer, or the iPhoto integration. Regardless of the location of the images the process is the same, just drag and drop the image into the Podcast Track. Once you have the image in the Podcast Track you can place it in the appropriate location in relationship to the audio track.
NOTE: You can also change the duration the image is displayed by selecting the image and then place your curser at the end of the image and then drag the curser to the left to shorten the duration or to the right to lengthen the duration.
3). When you add images to the Podcast Track you are also creating "Chapters". These chapters allow for you to provide the audience with a visual guide of change in ideas or concepts and a visual index of the topics being covered.
4). Another feature of the chapters is the ability to embed a URL link that , when viewed on the computer, can take your audience to a web page or site of relevance. To enter a URL just click on URL Title , and give your URL a simple name. Then click on URL to actually enter in the URL address.
5). If you wish for your podcast episode to display an image or album cover you can add one in the Episode Artwork window by dragging the image of your choice into the square box.
You may notice that part of the image is cropped off. In order to fix this double click on the image and adjust the cropping by moving the slider to your liking.
