Radio News is honored for Excellence (05/07)
Indiana
Public Radio’s news department continues its award-producing tradition
this spring, last month winning 6 awards from the Society of Professional
Journalists and 13 awards from the Associated Press.
Brian Beaver, IPR’s senior
news correspondent, was named “Best Radio Reporter” by the
AP—for the fifth straight year. Beaver also garnered 4 first-place
honors from the AP and 3 from the SPJ for individual stories he wrote
and produced in 2006.
Stan Sollars, the local host
for NPR™’s Morning Edition, and Marcus
Jackman, local host for NPR™’s All Things Considered,
along with Beaver, make up the IPR News team.
Sollars was honored by the AP for Best Newscast/Long Form, the 25th award
for Sollars in his 15-year IPR career. Sollars and the news team also
received a first-place award from SPJ for Best Newscast.
In recent years, IPR News has consistently been recognized for overall
excellence, winning dozens of awards in every category. Below is a recent
