:: Intensive English Institute (IEI)
Ball State University has an English language program available to incoming students. The main purpose of IEI is to provide international students, both undergraduate and graduate, with the English skills necessary for success at Ball State. IEI faculty help students progress rapidly in their English study so that they can begin their academic coursework on a part-time or full-time basis as soon as possible.
Placement into IEI is dependent upon your TOEFL or IELTS score. All incoming students who submit TOEFL scores below 79 on the internet-based, or 213 on the computer-based test or 550 on the paper-based test are required to take an English placement test during orientation. Those applicants who score below a 6.5 on the IELTS exam must also take the English placement test. The results of this test will be used to determine whether the student should enroll in a mix of academic and remedial English courses or begin with a full load of IEI courses.
