International Admissions
International Student Distance Education Application

Please complete this on-line application should you wish to apply for one of the 6 distance education programs available to international students.

Instructions for International Distance Education Applicants

The regular academic year extends from mid-August to early May and includes two semesters, each approximately fifteen weeks in length.  During the summer (May, June, and July) two terms of five weeks each are scheduled.  Each period of study‑‑a semester or a summer term‑‑requires examinations and completion of specific courses.  Grades for the courses taken are recorded on the permanent record of the student.

The University offers the following degrees and programs through our Distance Education office:
     Baccalaureate Completion in Nursing
MA in Career and Technical Education
     MA in Physical Education
     MA in Technology Education
     MS in Nursing
     Licensure for Gifted and Talented

You can use this application to apply for one of these six programs.

Educational systems around the world are very different, and degrees with the same name earned in different countries may have different requirements in terms of length of study and content.  Ball State University makes a careful study of these differences for each student who comes from another country, and the student is placed at a level that seems most appropriate as determined by his academic background in a given educational system of a given country.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

The required items needed to complete application materials for evaluation by the university are listed below for ready reference.  NOTE THAT NO ACTION ON YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE TAKEN UNTIL ALL REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS ARE RECEIVED.

1.             Completed application form
2.             Admission fee ($40 U.S.)
3.             Academic records (originals or certified copies in both original
                language and in English)
4.             Official TOEFL report
5.             Three letters of recommendation
6.             300‑500 word autobiographical statement
7.             One passport‑size photograph
8.             A copy of the picture page of your passport

The application form must be filled out completely!  The Application for Admission Fee is nonrefundable.  All applicants must submit the fee with an International Money Order, a U.S. Postal Money Order, or a check drawn on a U.S. bank.

Official copies of previous academic records are required.  Original or certified copies of academic records in native language are required.  If the language of the record is not English, a certified translation into English must be attached.  Undergraduate applicants must submit official academic records (transcripts or mark sheets) from all secondary or middle schools and all colleges, universities, or professional schools attended.  Undergraduate transfer students (those who have completed any post-secondary study) must submit course syllabi for any course for which they wish to have credit transferred.  No determination of transferable credit will be done until the syllabi are received.  Graduate applicants at the masters level must submit records of all academic programs taken after secondary school.

Applicants from countries other than the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand should submit OFFICIAL results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  If you do not submit TOEFL scores, your admission will be conditional upon completion of remedial English classes before beginning your academic program.  This test is given world wide several times a year.  Information concerning the TOEFL test dates and sites may be obtained by writing to TOEFL, Box 899, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, U.S.A or online at http://www.ets.org/toefl .  You should request that your test results be sent to our university.  Applicants who have earned degrees from accredited colleges or universities in the United States are not required to take the TOEFL.   Should your English language proficiency not be up to our standards, we will have no option but to deny your application as we have no English language support courses available on-line.

At least three confidential letters of recommendation are required of all applicants.  Applicants entering at the advanced undergraduate level should have letters submitted by the department head and major professors.  Applicants applying for graduate programs should have letters submitted by professors of their major subject in their most recent degree.  These letters must be sent by the writers directly to the address listed below.

The 300‑500 word autobiographical statement giving background, experience, and educational objectives at Ball State University helps us to know each applicant.

Ball State University admits only those international students who have shown by previous study and academic success that they are likely to be successful in their proposed studies here.  Please note that different academic programs have different requirements for admission, some requiring higher academic performance than others. In addition to academic performance, we consider the opinions of those providing recommendation letters, the information about your objectives given in the autobiographical statement, and your English proficiency.
