Top Middle East economics post to Ball State graduate

Dr. Nader Habibi has been appointed the first Henry J. Leir Chair in Economics of the Middle East at Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts.  Habibi is a 1980 graduate of Ball State University.

Since graduating in Muncie, Habibi completed a doctorate in economics at Michigan State University, was a visiting scholar at Yale University and taught at Bilkent University in Turkey as well as at institutions in his native Iran

Most recently, Habibi was managing director at Global Insight Inc., where he headed the firm's international forecasting regarding the Middle East and North Africa.

Remembered as a brilliant student of mathematics and computer science while at Ball State, Habibi will join Brandeis's economics department faculty on July 1, 2007, teaching students and conducting research as part of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis.
