Ankara Alumni welcome Brownells

Ball State alumni in Ankara gave a warm welcome to President and Mrs. Blaine Brownell during their first visit to Turkey in early October 2002.

Niyazi Ilter ’91 MA and Dr. Soner Ozkan’’71 MA were key organizers of a marvelous reception and dinner held at the Zenger Restaurant in the city’s historic district.

President Brownell gave welcome remarks and introduced a video showing campus scenes. Each alumnus was presented with mementos including a CD showing an evolution of the campus and plans for expansion.  The alumni presented a beautiful vase to the Brownells to remember their first visit to Ankara.

During the dinner, which followed, the most senior alumnus present, Dr. A. Galip Karagozoglu ’65 BS, honored the president with a marvelous toast. His son Okan, ’83 BS, ’85 MBA, told of family plans for his son to be the third generation of the family to attend BSU.

Gokyay Kepenek ’93 MAR and his wife Elif attended the event renewing ties made during their visit to Muncie during their honeymoon trip in May 1999.  Former visiting professor Dr. Kursat Aydogan also joined the fifteen-member group, which included spouses of alumni as well as Dr. Erdogan Kumcu, Martin and Mary Catherine Limbird.
