Thai alumni host BSU delegation
Eighteen BSU-related volunteer Engish conversation tutors were warmly welcomed on May 9 by key Ball State University alumni in Bangkok, Thailand.

Professor Sompong Juisiri, MA ’63, and Khun Rudi Jivalak, MA ’63, organized a welcome dinner at the Royal Bankok Hotel for the group on their arrival. Other alumni attending the dinner included Asst. Prof. Komol Wong-Apai, MAE ‘70,  Dr. Suvit Thaniyavarn, MA ’77,’79, Mrs. Supapan Thaniyavarn MA ’80, and Dr. Sriya Niyomtham, MA ’73.

The delegation was part of a first-ever program of English conversation for Thai students at Prince of Songkla University (PSU). The conversation program was developed by Ball State administrator Dr. Kris Rugsaken MA’70 EDD’76, chair of the BSU Asian Studies program, in cooperation with PSU Vice President for Research and International Relations, Dr. Supachok. The exchange took place over a two week period, with housing, meals and local sightseeing being provided by PSU. The volunteers provided for their own transportation to and from Thailand.

According to Dr. Rugsaken, discussions are underway to sign a multi-year agreement between Ball State and PSU to extend this program. For more information on this exchange, see www.bsu.edu/web/atsaf
