The Immigration Service at Ball State provides the following services:

:: Immigration work
This includes immigration document preparation for all Ball State students, visiting scholars and H-1B visa holders such as extension of stay, change of status, family member visitation, dependent status, employment and practical training authorization, changing majors, etc.

:: Housing
We help the international students who want to live on campus by forwarding request forms and information to the Ball State Housing Office. We also assist international students by putting them in contact with other students who need a roommate or a place to stay.

:: Orientation
Our orientation program is designed to help new international students to understand and adjust as a student at Ball State and as a member of a bigger American society. For more information about orientation, please click here.

:: Educational and Social Events
Throughout the year, our office hold several programs that facilitate interactions, build relationship, and promote diversity among the international students and community at Ball State and Muncie. The events include:

  • International Festival
    This annual event has been a tradition at Ball State campus for almost 50 years. It is an educational and entertaining event for everyone in the community. This festival is an opportunity for the international students to share their culture through setting up the display booths that are rich with the countries' information, art and craft, photographs, and other activities for visitors; culture show with dance, song, poetry, and fashion from different countries; the language corner where visitors may learn basic words and phrases on different languages; food tasting; and special presentations upon request.   • Coffee House
    It is a monthly informal reception held at the CIP office and open to the public(usually attended by students, faculty, staff and friendship families). This event is a place to relax, chat, and have snack.
  • Culture Exchange
    At this weekly event, students and/or faculty give informal presentation about a country (usually the country where the student/faculty come from or where they have been). The topics of presentation vary: general information about a country, focus on music, religion, custom of a country, or a specific current issue.
  • International Dinner
    Usually attended by approximately 200 people, this dinner is a fund raiser event for the international student emergency fund. Students or faculty from a specific country or area cook the meal and people attending the event purchase tickets at the CIP office or at the door before the dinner starts. The dinner is held every Fall and Spring semester.
  • Presidents Dinner
    This annual event is sponsored by the President's office, especially for the international community at Ball State. It is a formal dinner attended by at least 300 people. The dinner is followed by international dance, where everybody may join the dance with music from around the world.

  • Iftar
    Iftar is part of the celebration to break the fast during the month of Ramadan. This event is to promote deeper understanding of Islam and the Moslem community. This carry-in dinner is usually held once a year during Ramadan at the CIP.
  • Welcome Reception
    We welcome the new international students and celebrate the beginning of a new semester at the welcome reception held every Fall and Spring semester. This reception is open for everyone to meet new people from the same countries and to connect with new people from other part of the world.
  • Speakers Bureau 
    In many occasions, the people in the local community and the university would like to learn about international issues from a first-hand source. Many of them request international students to come and talk about their countries or viewpoints on specific issues in a panel or through general presentation. The Speakers Bureau helps to make the connection and assists the community in this matter.
  • Friendship Family
