H-1B visa holders who wish to travel outside the U.S. need to make an appointment with CIP several weeks prior to their scheduled travel to have their documents reviewed and to retrieve their original I-797 form which is kept on file at CIP.

For entry or re-entry into the United States, the following documents are required:

1. valid passport
2. valid H-1B visa for more than one entry
3. original I-797 approval notice (The original of this form is kept in your file at CIP and must be returned when travel outside the U.S. is completed.)
4. letter from department confirming dates of employment and salary
