Immigration counseling is the most important service that CIP offers to both the non-immigrant population and the Ball State community at large. CIP is the expert resource for the University in the areas of F-1, J-1, H-1B  rules and regulations. CIP acts as the University liaison with the United States U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS formerly INS), the Department of State (DOS), the Department of Labor (DOL), and the Indianapolis Workforce Development Alien Certification Unit.

An accurate and thorough understanding of immigration rules and regulations is essential to meet the needs of this community. CIP strives to ensure that our non-immigrant constituency maintains legal, lawful status while at Ball State University. The efforts of CIP staff are rewarded by our students, researchers, faculty and staff from abroad being able to qualify for the maximum number of benefits from CIS and DOS.

Immigration-related services include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Transfer between Ball State and other U.S. academic institutions
  • Employment applications
  • Reinstatement applications
  • Travel endorsements
  • Applications to change non-immigrant status
  • Production of immigration documents for prospective international undergraduate & graduate and professional students
  • Applications to obtain, amend, and/or to extend H-1B, faculty/staff status
