International students wishing to attend Ball State University typically enter the U.S. on a F-1 Student visa (using the form I-20) or a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa (using the form DS-2019).  We recommend that you Consult the US Department of State Website Destination USA (http://unitedstatesvisas.gov) to learn about the visa application process required by your local Consular Office.  Please note, most students apply for a visa at the Consular Office having jurisdiction over their place of residence.  You may apply for a visa at any U.S. Consular Office, but "third country nationals" may find it more difficult to secure a visa.

Please be prepared for your visa interview by having all of the following documentation with you:

  • Visa application forms, provided by the US Embassy or Consulate
  • Passport valid for six months beyond the date you will enter the US
  • Photograph that meets specifications (http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/forminfo.htm#Photos)
  • Visa fee payment receipt
  • Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019)
  • Letter of admission from Ball State University
  • Evidence of sufficient English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS results)
  • Evidence of sufficient financial documentation
  • Evidence of sufficient ties to your home country Learn more about important documents that you should know.
