Machines running Leopard (10.5.x) have a built-in backup system that allows you to use an external hard drive to make an exact copy of your machine. To back up your files, open system preferences and select Time Machine or use the Time Machine icon on you dock (
).
Once Time Machine is open, turn it on by sliding the button to the right.
Once you have turned it on, a new window will appear.
