72: Checking your Warranty

If you would like to check to see whether your computer is still covered under warranty, follow these few steps.

First, click on the blue apple icon at the top left-hand corner of your screen and select "About this Mac."



Next, click on "More Info."

You should now see the System Profiler window.


In the left column within this window, select "Hardware." Now, in the right column, locate the Serial Number and copy it down on a piece of paper.

Now, open a new window in your web browser by clicking on File and selecting New Window. Visit the following website: www.apple.com/support/



Scroll down toward the bottom of this page and find the section along the right hand side of the page that reads "About Your Support Coverage." There is a blank field below this heading. Type in the serial number here that your wrote down on a piece of paper. Click Go.

After a few seconds, a few sentences pertaining to your warranty should appear, informing you of whether your computer is still covered under warranty.

Additional information:
Apple's hardware warranty does not cover accidental damage, user abuse, or theft. Accidental damage and user abuse include dropping your laptop, stepping on it, and spilling liquid on it. If any of these situations applies to your computer, the warranty is null and void.
