48: DVD Backups
Is it possible to backup a DVD that you already own? The answer depends on what type of DVD you are trying to backup.
If you are wanting to backup a piece of software that is on a DVD you are allowed to make a backup as long as you have the original.
If you are wanting to backup a DVD of a home movie that you made, you are allowed to do that.
If you want to backup a DVD that you rented from the video store, that is illegal. This is being argued in the courts, but as it stands right now, it is illegal to break the encryption on a DVD and make a back up.
