37: Configure MS Entourage (IMAP)

MS Entourage is Microsoft's email program. There are a lot more built in features for Entourage than Mail including a Calendar, Notes, and a task creator. This article explains how to configure Entourage to check your BSU email.

At the moment, in order to setup Entourage to check your BSU Email away from the Ball State University campus, you must set up an IMAP account. If you want to setup your Entourage application to check you BSU Email on-campus, please see Knowledge Base Article Number 41, "Configure MS Entourage (exchange)."

Moving Back to IMAP Accounts:

First, you will need to setup your search domains in your network preferences before the IMAP server will work properly. Open System Preferences by clicking on the blue apple at the top left-hand corner of the screen and selecting System Preferences. Now, under Internet & Network, select Network. Next, click on the drop down menu in the field labeled "Show." Select "Airport." Click on the tab at the top of the window labeled TCP/IP.

In the Search Domains field, type in "bsu.edu" (without the quotation marks).

Now, at the top of the window in the "Show" field, select "Built-in Ethernet." Again, in the Search Domains field, type in "bsu.edu" (without the quotation marks).

You can now close the Network Preferences window and all your changes will be saved automatically.

Back to Entourage Setup:

If this is the first time you have launched the Entourage Application, you may get a welcome screen. Please close all welcome windows.

Now, click on Entourage in the Menu Bar and scroll down to and select Account Settings.

Next, in the Account Settings window, select the Mail tab on the left-hand side of the window and click on the New button at the top left corner of the window.

You should now be looking at the New Account window. Select IMAP from the drop down menu and click OK.

The Edit Account window should now appear in front of you.

Fill in the fields in this window with your information as follows:
Account Name: BSU Email Off-Campus (this is just a suggestion)
Name: Your Full Name
Email Address: Your BSU Email Address
Account ID: Your BSU User Name
IMAP server: imap.bsu.edu
Password: Your BSU Password
SMTP server: smtp.bsu.edu

Now, under the SMTP Server, click on "Click Here for Advanced Sending Options." In the field that reads "Domain for unqalified addresses," type exactly: bsu.edu

Close this advanced settings window.

Click the button at the bottom right hand corner of the window that reads OK.

Close the Accounts window.

Your IMAP account is now configured.

Simply click on the Inbox tab under your IMAP account to check your incoming email.
