34: Troubleshooting cross-platform documents

A file created in Word on a Windows machine will open on a Macintosh most of the time. The reason files might not open cross-platform are as follows:

The file extension is missing. This is the most common error. Make sure that when you save a document you save it with the proper file extension (.doc, .pdf, etc).

The file was created with an old version of the software. If you are using a really old version of a piece of software it might not be cross-platform compatible.

A virus is infecting your machine and adding itself to the file.
