Dr. James Kirkwood
Professor Emeritus

"I have taught full or part-time in the elementary schools for 38 years.  The rest of my teaching career has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in elementary school technology education.  The children in my classes do many, many activities to help them understand their technological world. I want them to understand the relationship of technology to their own lives and to the other things they are learning.   I also have about 12 years of industrial experience, mostly in construction.  My five children (all of whom I taught in the elementary schools) are now on their own.  Four of them are married and involved in teaching in one way or another.  They have presented me with eleven grandchildren in the past 7 years."

"As a teacher, researcher, and technologist, I relish the dynamic and evolving nature of teaching and learning about the technological world. Because the knowledge base on which our curriculum is grounded mutates with each new technological innovation, we, in the Technology Education discipline, must nurture our life-long learning skills and conscientiously examine our pedagogical practice. So, join me in 'ITEDU 699: Research in Industrial Education' to explore how research can inform classroom practice."

Professor and Department Chair, Graduate Admissions Coordinator

"Someone once said, 'to teach is to touch a life forever'. Teaching is fun. I truly enjoy the teaching / learning process and strive hard to be successful at it. To teach is to have the opportunity to help transform a student’s life. Hopefully, what I do -- and the manner in which I model my personal and professional life -- has a positive affect on the students I work with."
