Here are the pics of the opened up Raider. They aren't amazing I know, but it's something.

Also, do you happen to have any copper Brian? I don't know what size to use for this as I've never worked with it before. I'm very much interested in doing a barrel replacement and your help would be wonderful. :D

File comment: Another angle on the breach. There is just enough room it looks like to do an easy barrel replacement. The AR is also just down there a ways, Looks easy enough to get out.

File comment: The barrel pops right out and comes lose from both the breach and the tip of the gun. Nerf was actually nice about this one.

File comment: Close up of the meat of the gun. Looks a lot like the Recon system, just modified a little to take up less space.

AR removal is going ot be tough. I've already done two, and the sled is held to the breech by this really nice pin thats really tough to get out. You'll want to have somthing strong and thin to poke it out, like a needle or somthing. Other then that AR removal is just like the longshot or recon.

Oh and be sure to cut at an angle, the way some of the grooves line up is REALLY important and you want to be sure to put it back together just right.

Barrel replacement almost looks like it'd be easier then it was for the longshot/recon. But I haven't attempted that yet.

ARs are easy as hell to get out with a drill and a 1/2inch drill bit. It's just like the Recon and Longshot. 30seconds and it's out.

SOME of us don't have drills though, and have to rely on dremmels. And the tube and the way the sled is held to it makes getting to it rather...interesting. -.-

I don't have a drill either, I'm just saying that a 1/2in drill bit is the easiest way to go about it.

I'm sure one of the three woodshops on campus would be okay with letting you use one of theirs.

I don't own any brass. Brass is great to work with because it's sized such that each size fits snugly and perfectly into the size larger than it. Brass is preferable to other barrel materials when the dart has a long way to go before reaching top speed (preferable just as it clears the barrel). If you have any specific questions, I'll be glad to help you out.

Well, I've never worked with anything but PVC, and CPVC so...

-Can you get brass at Lowes?
-Will copper work the same as brass? It seems to me that they are just about as smooth.

I believe so - it should be over by the PVC and CPVC.

You're right about that - the question is one of inner diameter and outer diameter. Copper is sized by outer diameter (so it can fit into couplers and such), but its inner diameter is variable to allow for different strengths. If you can get an ID and OD that work for you, so much the better, as it's a cheaper purchase than brass. Brass has the advantage, however, of being the stronger metal, which allows it to have a consistent wall thickness (I want to say 1/32" or 1/16"). This allows it to be nested very easily, as every size fits perfectly into the size above it.

The best way to go about your purchase the first time, I would say, would be to take a dart or two and the barrel you're replacing down to Lowe's with you and start sizing things manually. For dart fitting, you're looking for just barely air-tight, with as little friction as you can achieve. Essentially, you're looking for the same fit as what you'd get with a good blowgun (which, incidentally, could be made ideally from brass or copper - PVC provides unnecessary friction). The second thing you'll need to check is if the replacement barrel can be mounted with little difficulty - close to the size of the original barrel. If breaching or nesting interests you, I'd play around the fittings between sizes of brass and copper - some sizes can nest with sizes of the other metal, or even sizes of PVC, CPVC, or PETG, so some playing around is helpful here.

I have a lot of spare brass tubes lying around if you need some, mostly at varying diameters. Lowe's was VERY picky with their selection of brass (In smaller sizes and specific diameters, but I don't know how the Lowe's in Muncie works; I'm just going off my experience elsewhere);I had to go to a local hardware store in New Pal to get the right size of brass for my mod. Let me know what measurements you need and I can hook you up.
