 Official Game Variant Drawing Board
Post any and all game play ideas and variants here. I heart CTF/simple kill match variants in a big way! I WILL try anything once!
Couple basic thoughts on crafting a variant
- make it accessible to the player base. This means trying to avoid games like "vulcans only" - Remember K.I.S.S. from your childhood? If you assume that people are dumb (they are, I've checked) the games will end up better - If you like a variant in a video game you love (TF2, CS, HALO, UT, ect....) DO NOT HESITATE to add it here. I love this shit!

Game Variants from here on out shall be ratified by mod-staff and added to the official ruleset, which is edited periodically anyway so you should check it out.

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
From Timesplitters: Future Perfect
Zones Type: Team Respawns: Yes Requirements: 2-5 zones Description: It's pretty much King-of-the-Hill
Virus Type: Free-for-all Respawns: Yes Description: Pretty much like HvZ. One player is infected and they will try to infect the other players. Players killed need to got to the respawn point, including infected players. Win Condition: Last man uninfected
Thief Type: Free-for-all Respawns: Yes Requirements: "tokens" (pieces of paper, etc.) Description: Players have "tokens". When they are killed, they must drop one token. ANYONE can grab that dropped token. Win Condition: Most tokens after a set amount of time
Shrink Type: Free-for-all or Team Respawns: Yes Requirement: Scorekeeper Description: All players at the start of the match can be hit anywhere on their bodies and be killed. 1 point per kill Hear's where it gets interesting. When they are killed, parts of their body becomes invulnerable. This is in stages. Stage 0: nothing is invulnerable Stage 1: torso is invulnerable Stage 2: torso and legs(except feet) invulnerable Stage 3: torso, legs(except feet), and arms(except hands and guns) invulnerable Stage 4: invulnerable
Players move down the stages when they are killed consecutive times without killing another player. Players move up the stages when they kill another player Example: Players 1 through 4 are playing.
P1 kills P2 P2 respawn and move to Stage 1 P3 kills P2 P2 respawn and move to Stage 2 P2 kill P4 P2 move back to Stage 1
Win conditions: Most points after set time.

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
One small question on the long list of things to be clarified on most recent postings....where do the flags come into play?? Ill give you that many of these sound like good ideas and some could be incorperated with some fine-tuning. But I would like to remind future posters that this is, at its core, Capture the Flag. that bit, I feel, is fairly crucial to the process, and should remain at the heart of any Ideas. Just saying...

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
I like this Idea as it could be incorperated in our game...perhaps this could solve some problems we have had trying to come up with a tally system. My vision: each player is given a certain number of Tokens by the mod-staff. each set of tokens has a number on it that corresponds to the player as documented prior to the game... as they are killed, tokens are surrendered to the killer as Lives. when a player is out of lives(aka: his own tokens), he is done with that round of the game. Once the flag is captured or it is established that it cannot be captured, tokens are tallied amoung the survivors for Rank. theoreticallly this could continue through subsequent games, building a constantly moving ranking system for CtF players, and encouraging regular attendance in the process...this would be really hard to keep accurate track of, and wouldnt it then be everyones goal to become invulnerable?....perhaps this could be incorperated into the token system, only instead of invulnerability, players who die the set number of times are removed from play...this makes players progressively harder to kill yet stops them from trying to achieve a state where they cannot be killed. points would then be awarded to the most vulnerable players at the end of the game, once the flags have been moved to one spot.

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
This is loosely related to CTF, but id still like to try it....
From the minds of Roster Teeth...
GRIFBALL
2 teams start out at opposite sides of the playing field. An object is placed at the center of the field and both teams are trying to capture that object. Here's the twist. When one player picks up the "grifball" that player turns into grif. As the "grif", you are susceptible to attacks from both sides. Essentially, it starts out as a game of 1 flag CTF, but there can only be one single person who wins the match.
My explanation is probably a bit lacking, but it is 2 in the AM.
Questions?

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
ODDBALL... or at least ODDFLAG.
Type: Free For All Respawns: Yes Objective: There is one flag. All players are trying to get it. If you hold the flag you can not shoot, you have to run. If you are shot, you must drop the flag and step away from it.
The first player to collectively hold the flag for 10 minutes is the winner.
this may be hard to enforce as it may require a lot of stop watches. A way to help this is to make it team based, and have a counter for each team. I think it could be hilarious to watch people duke it out for the flag... and some fast ninja player grabs it and runs, and they then turn and chase after him.
See similar post above lol

Re: Official Game Variant Drawing Board
This seems interesting... Is there a need for teams though? Are they present to prevent the game from turning into a giant cluster of chaos?
