Would one possibly be allowed to use sock bolas? I know that it might be a little impractical, seeing as it would count as an extension of the body, but i have toyed with it some and I think in would work if I built/used one like a bird bola ( thrown overhand, holding the middle, +3 socks on cords hanging down).

Also, I know this would be even more impractical, but it would be interesting to use a sling to throw socks. It would be difficult ( it is already an insanely difficult weapon to be accurate with) , not to mention socks have a lot of air resistance and little weight, but it would be neat. My friends asked shortly before the game started and got denied, but you can't blame a guy for trying.

Either of those is fine - nobody should have been denied the chance to use sock bolas or slings (both of which have been tried before). I could see people not recommending the use of those weapons, as nobody has yet to prototype a model that significantly improves on the standard "throw a sock" method (and believe me, we've tried). You're welcome to give it a shot, though. Just keep the UGL and HvZ administration abreast of your efforts before fielding one.

As long as that Bolas is leaving your hand, I got no problem with it.

If you can get a valid and effective slingshot method going, more power to you.

This is my opinion, take it or leave.. But a bolas sounds like a mighty dangerous weapon. I mean... Real life bolas are used to trip cows or something. Doesn't something that could potential somebody a bad idea especially on pavement or worse: McKinley? In addition to the danger I don't think it would be very effective. You could hit one person. Then have to use another or something else.

I think that safety concern might want to be considered. Perhaps a limit on the length of rope?

The general understanding would be to avoid string or thin rope - or anything intended to trip. The goal with a sock bola is to increase the volume of air the sock moves through. My prototype was built by stuffing the ends of tube socks, then tying them together.

On the sock bolas thing, If the socks were not far enough apart to wrap around both legs, then wouldn't the issue of possible tripping be avoided for the most part?

The other day I threw the cap from one of those Dean's Milk Chug bottles at one of my pals. They actually fly pretty well if you throw them like a ninja star. Also, they are cheap if you consider you just keep the cap from every milk you drink. Would these be legal in hvz?

Yes, the issue would be avoided - but there are other efficacy problems with the design that have lead to them never being fielded.

No - the caps are made of hard plastic, and frequently have rough cutting imperfections along the side blades. It might be possible to pad them and get a workable solution, though.

I found this at wal-mart.

Would such a weapon be legal if thrown tomahawk-style?

I can't say for certain without actually feeling the thing, but if it's similar in design to the Nerf swords, then no.

I have a few of these on hand, and will do some testing to see how safe they are. for now, all I can say is that would be a mighty expensive sock.
