So guys, what charities do we want to benefit?

I'm just going to let that roll, and keep a list here in the OP.
Please indicate if it's a local charity or not (BSU is keeping track with their new policy  )
Please also give the official charity name, and a website link may be useful as well.
If you want to give a description of the charity, go ahead and include one in your post.
Thank you!

A non-profit organization that goes around to help fix homes and buildings for people in need. Figure a large group of UGL members could go together to help.

I had an idea for a fundraiser that we could do at the invitational. We take a page from Ohio State and we sell bandanas. There would have to be a few things we would have to do like design a logo for bandanas and make them. And to get people to buy them and not violate our constitution we only require players to wear bright green bandanas. So these bandanas are just an option for players instead of going to a fabric store. The price can be determined later but I think if we make a kickass bandana then people will be willing to pay for it so they have a cool souvenir from the invitational.

ARF!

In case you know nothing about it, it's a local animal shelter that's pretty much always looking for volunteers or donations. There are a bunch of ways we could help out there and it wouldn't take any sort of heavy organization. Plus, everyone likes doggies and kitties, right?

OP Updated!

Dan, I created a new thread using your post on UGL-specific fund raising; thank you :) http://www.bsu.edu/hvz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=3549

Ani, that seems like a pretty easy thing to do/sign up for. I just couldn't find if they wanted one-time comers or commitments for the duration of a project. The shorter the event, the easier for people to make the time. Definitely want to keep looking at this one since it's very easy to do (requires little from the volunteers) and could be practice for some people with the inclination toward the Stage-Production and Props aspects of UGL games.

Nate, I love it. This would be a great one to have donation buckets out during all our events. We could do community craft days to make the buckets all pretty, and maybe even have free photos of cute critters as for those who donate (or at least see the bucket) to take. These photos would be postcard-sized and have the ARF information on them, as well as a bit of UGL advertising. It looks like ARF is pretty loose with their copy-writing, but we'll see about that.
We could also kick it off with an animal-based event or something... HvZ training mission: deliver catnip and/or dog treats to each point (invest $20ish in materials-- even I could cover that cost-- or get players to bring them as donations or something). Each point has a donation and a couple of cute critters, and after the mission players get to ogle and play with the animals. This would require a little effort on ARF's part to bring the animals out, but could alternatively be run without the animals, and simply with the delivery portion (it's just less fun that way is all).

Keep brainstorming guys, this is awesome stuff! :D
