VOLUNTEERING TO HELP WITH FRESHMAN MOVE IN:
If your organization plans to volunteer to help with freshmen move in, please read the letter below from Dr. Cathy Bickel and plan to attend one of the two scheduled information meetings.
At least one member of your organization must attend an information meeting prior to the day you plan to help out to get your location assignment. If you have questions please email cbickel@bsu.edu. Thank you!

Dear UGL:

On behalf of the Office of Housing and Residence Life I want to thank you for volunteering to help our new students move in to their new home in the residence halls. I am very grateful for your assistance on such an important day and I know the new students and their families are equally as appreciative!!

Move in day for new students is actually two days instead of one because of the early move in opportunity afforded those students who have contracted for our two year premium housing plan. The first day new students can move in to their residence hall will be on Wednesday, August 15th, 9am - 5pm. This day is for those students registered for the premium plan only. Our regular new student move in day will be on Thursday, August 16th, 9am-5pm.

Your assignment to assist with move-in will be given to you at one of the two information meetings you should attend - Tuesday, August 14th at 4pm or Wednesday, August 15th at 4pm. Your group representative only needs to attend one of these meetings. Both meetings will be held in the Schwartz Digital Learning Pod Room in Bracken Library on the main level.

Please be aware of a few guidelines we would like you to follow as you assist our new students and their families. Shirts - We are happy to have you wear a shirt representing your organization, however please know that the task at hand is to assist new students and not recruit them for your organization. We ask that you concentrate on welcoming tour new students and families to BSU. Information - Many times new students and their families will have lots of questions about living in the residence halls, many of which you will not know the answers. Please refer students to the hall staff for information rather than guessing at an answer. Being Positive - We ask that remarks about the residence halls be positive and upbeat. If a student complains about the size of their room, you can suggest different ways to organize it to meet their needs. Or, it may be a hot day to move in and the halls may be very warm, however new students do not need to hear that from you! If you are positive about the residence halls, new students and their families will be as well. Work AND Greet - Please know that your task is to help students move in to the halls and not just greet them. Students and parents appreciate a helping hand on move in day and not just a hello and welcome to BSU!
