Why were headshots invalidated?

I assume to discourage shooting people in the head. I personally am not a fan of the move. I don't really think it will reduce the number of headshots, since accidents will happen regardless of the rules set. I haven't been aware of people shooting for the face intentionally in previous games. Also, when a zombie's diving for you, the top of their head is the biggest, most obvious target (and tends to shield much of the rest of the body from fire).

I basically see the new rule as a source for conflict between players (I shot you before you tagged me! What do you mean it didn't count!?), and not really as an effective means of preventing injury or pain.

Have we had any major complaints about headshots? I mean... I do it incidentally every once in a while.

In the nerfwar I was involved in, I tagged somebody in the head and there was minor griping for about thirty seconds and then everyone was over it.

I just feel like this creates a huge opportunity for conflict and rule-bending.

I can see this kinda thing bringing in a lot of moderators to solve issues. But I see the reason for it for safety.

How much more damage could a foam dart do to a head than it does to the body?

Really, it depends. An unlucky shot that just happens to hit the eye in a certain way might scratch the cornea, and could theoretically damage someone's vision. It makes sense that we should discourage shots to the face, but I don't think anyone's doing it on purpose, so I'm not sure what we hope to accomplish. It really just seems to punish people who are unlucky enough to get an unintended headshot.

I think that's the crux of the issue. I would like to challenge this ruling, do we have a formal way of doing this?

This thread should suffice as a formal appeal. Jason'll see it soon.

I never really intended for this rule to be enforceable. It was created as a nod to the administration; I've been told we need our public face to look like we're on top of safety. That's the entire reason for this.

However, Fletcher has a point. The same end can be accomplished with less in-game headache; so instead, I'll adjust it to "Do not shoot or tag anyone in the head. See Rule #1."

Also, for future note: everyone currently in an administrative position checks this board daily, if not more often. The constitution we've drawn up even stipulates that we will conduct all business on the forums. As far as I'm concerned, complaints, requests, appeals, or what have you are formal as soon as you state they're formal :)

Could you reword it to say: "Avoid shooting players in the head or face. See Rule #1."?
