Post Hold the Presses HvZ Rules Update Release
Hello everyone. After review by myself, my mod staff, and the UGL staff, we have come up with the following changes. Note that all changes will be posted in BRIGHT RED.

Comments welcome.

HvZ Rules
These rules are specific to the game of Humans vs. Zombies. You should also be familiar with the Universal Rules.
Read updates to the rules here so you don't need to re-read the rules looking for changes.

Table of Contents

• Objectives
• Required Equipment
• Optional Equipment
• General Gameplay
o Bandanas
o Safe Zones
o Off Campus
o Stunning a Zombie
o Killing a Human

o Non-BSU Players
o Other Rules

Overview:
Humans vs. Zombies is a game of tag. All players begin as Humans, and a small number are randomly chosen to be the "Original Zombies." The Original Zombies tag human players and turn them into Zombies. A Zombie must tag and "feed" on a human every 48 hours or he starves to death and is out of the game.

Objectives:
If you’re a Human, combat and survive the zombie infestation! This may require you to make friends and complete "missions" that will be e-mailed to you. If you’re a Zombie, strengthen the Horde, tag humans, and eat brains!

Required Equipment:
This gear is required for all players:
• Three (3) 3x5" index cards inscribed with your HvZ ID number, which will be given to you when you register online. Also, write your Name, email address and/or phone number so that questions (usually about the handwriting [is that a zero and an O?]) can be answered.
• One BRIGHT NEON GREEN bandana.

Optional Equipment:
• Humans can defend themselves from zombies with Nerf-style dart gun(s), breath powered weapon(s), and/or by propelling clean, balled-up sock(s) - More approved weapons.

Blowguns and all other breath-based weaponry will be allowed. It must have BRIGHT NEON ORANGE at least 1 inch along the length of the tip. A weapon with a prefabricated orange tip (Nerf-style weaponry) under 1 inch is acceptable.

No weapons may be painted realistically (including black and/or silver) as per request by the UPD. UGL encourages players to leave the weapon's orange barrel-tip, where applicable, and unpainted when painting weapons so as to convey it as toy weaponry.

General Gameplay:
The game starts with everyone on the human team, except for a few secret zombies known as "Original Zombies." For the first 24 hours — the "Incubation Period" — the Original Zombies are undetectable and can wear (or not wear) their bandana in any way they wish, including as a Human. Humans can choose to either wear or not wear their bandana during the incubation period.
During this paranoia-driven chaos, the Original Zombies will be attempting to build up their hordes - without blowing their cover if possible. Humans tagged by the Original Zombies will become Zombies, and must wear their bandanas as normal. After the first 24 hours, Original Zombies and remaining Humans also must wear their proper bandanas, as per the following rules:

Bandanas:
Bandanas signify which team you’re on.
• COLOR IS IMPORTANT:
o All players wear BRIGHT NEON GREEN bandanas.
o All NPCs wear BRIGHT NEON ORANGE bandanas.
o All Moderators wear WHITE bandanas

Humans:
o Wear bandanas tied around their upper arms (either arm is acceptable)
o Must wear their bandana whenever they are outside, including outdoor safe zones, for the duration of the game
o May remove their bandanas when inside buildings, but must put them back on before leaving.

Zombies:
o Wear bandanas on their heads, headband-style. If wearing head apparel, make sure the headband is clearly visible.
o May decide not to wear their bandanas outside, but are out of play while the bandana is off
o If a Zombie is outdoors without their bandana on, they must either:
 Wait 15 minutes after putting it back on to play again, OR
 Enter a building, put the bandana back on, and resume play.
 Wearing or not wearing a bandana does not affect a Zombie's stun status.
A Zombie may NOT be stunned if they are not wearing their headband, as they are not in the game.

• Neither team may wear a bandana or multiple bandanas in such a way as to be confused with the other team.
• Bandannas that fall off accidentally should be re-tied as quickly as possible, but actions by either team are not negated because of the incident.

Safe Zones:
Like any decent game of tag, there are places where you are always safe. At BSU, the following areas are safe:
• Inside all campus buildings - including all parking garages and enclosed bus stops.
• Inside buses
• A radius of ~30 feet from ENTERABLE doorways. Doorways that cannot be entered do not provide safe zones.
o For parking garages, the safe zone provided by these is only INSIDE the garage. As BSU frowns upon the use of Parking Garages, Moderators may ask players to leave if they feel they are disrupting the use of the Parking Garage. Players are asked to avoid these when possible.
o Stopped buses with open doors are treated as buildings, and provide a safe radius. Buses in motion afford no such protection to those outside.
• While at any of the following (but not on the way to or from):
o BSU classes
o Campus Jobs (take off your bandana when on the clock)
o Official extra-curricular activities or practices.

In order to accommodate student life, players may remove themselves from the game by removing their armbands or headbands ONLY if they have expensive or valuable property on themselves (such as an art project, a musical instrument, BSU event attire [such as a choir dress], etc.) They must immediately return to normal game rules once they no longer carry these. Common objects that do NOT count for this are school books and laptops. The act of carrying a valuable object in order to simply avoid the game is cheating. Players are asked to observe rule number one here.

Off Campus:
Leaving campus during the duration of the game is acceptable only if the player has a destination off campus. Cutting through an off-campus area to save time or avoid attack is against the rules.

Stunning a Zombie:
Humans can stun zombies for 15 minutes by shooting them with a dart gun or by throwing a sock at them. If you’re a zombie and you get shot, put your bandana around your neck to signify that you’re out of play. DO NOT interfere with the game play at all, including acting as a shield. Stunned zombies should leave the realm of active play if stunned. This literally means move 30 feet away from active players (both human and zombie). If this is not a situation where that is easily done, announce yourself back in if within 30ft of humans. After your 15 minutes are done, you’re back in play!

Killing a Human:
Zombies kill Humans by tagging them and earning "feed codes". They must report a feed every 48 hours to remain alive. Humans must carry three index cards with their ID numbers on them at all times. If a Zombie tags them, the Human must distribute their ID cards to nearby Zombies however they wish, with at least one going to the Zombie that made the tag. The tagged Human turns into a Zombie officially in one hour.
The Zombie who made the tag must report the kill in the database within TWO HOURS of the tag. Once the initial kill is recorded, the other two feed codes must be entered within TWO HOURS, or they will expire. Example: Lemmy, a zombie, kills Pete, a human, at 2:30 in the afternoon. Since Lemmy was alone, Pete gives him all three cards. Pete will become a zombie at 3:30. Lemmy should report the kill sometime before 4:30 to keep the database accurate, so he reports the kill at 4:00 and decides to give the other two cards to his zombie friends Nick and Teddy. Nick and Teddy MUST report their kills by 6:00 (two hours after Lemmy reported the original kill) or their cards will be worthless.
Once the incubation period ends, humans may also "bite" themselves. Humans are encouraged to do so if their zombie tagger is taking too long to report a kill, or if they have decided to quit the game. After a human reports their own death, the zombie who tagged them has two hours to report the kill before the feed expires.

Missions:
This game is largely plot-driven. Both sides will be given missions to complete. Missions are entirely optional, but provide a great deal of the fun of the game. Success or failure often has an effect on future missions. Sometimes a success will be rewarded by a small, advantageous change in the game play for the successful team, such as changing the Zombie starve time or the Zombie re-animation time. Ultimately, the game is won or lost through success or failure with these missions. Failing a mission could very easily make the game more challenging, whether a Human or a Zombie.

Non-BSU Players
• HvZ-BSU is designed for play by BSU students, and BSU faculty, as the waivers only apply to them. However, some exceptions can be made, but only by the HvZ administration. These exceptions are usually for allowing players and or moderators from other campuses to come to experience HvZ. Although the thought of inviting a non-BUS friend to come play sounds fun, it may not always be acceptable as it risks the game for everyone. If a player knows someone who in not affiliated with BSU, the player and guest must ask the HvZ administration for permission.

Other Rules:
• Personal vehicles are prohibited for game play use, except for commuting on and off campus or using the bus system. If you are being picked up, a player must move to the edge of campus to do so. This rule was added as this act is eliciting help from an outside source, and can be used to avoid playing the game.
• No melee weapons.
• NO SHIELDS. If your shield, backpack, or even hair gets tagged or hit by a dart, it counts as a hit on you. Humans’ guns are extensions of their body, and thus are "taggable."
• Humans can stand inside a safe zone and shoot Zombies who are outside. Zombies, however, cannot tag from within a safe zone.
• Humans can pick up any ammo they find. Zombies can only pick up ammo when there are no humans nearby to contest them (If there's nobody around, please pick up any ammo you see, to prevent littering). A good rule of thumb is that if a human asks you not to pick up a dart, don't pick it up.
The “Zombie Matador” is not allowed. To clarify this is when a zombie throws a coat or similarly sized object in the air to block a dart. If this occurs, the zombie in violation of this and is counted as being hit by a dart.
A player can NOT lie about whether or not they are in fact playing HvZ.

Enforcing the Rules:
If you encounter a situation in which the rules are called into question, you have two options.

• Work it out amongst yourselves, using the Official HvZ BSU Rules. Strike deals, flip coins, whatever. good sportsmanship and the honor system are key to keeping the game running smoothly.
• If #1 doesn't work, you may call a moderator. This moderator’s decision is final - please respect their judgment. If your situation is a case of "he said, she said", the Moderator will most likely resort to FLIPPING A COIN. If you’re not cool with your life in the hands of a coin toss, then I hope you’re willing to go back to option number one.

Report serious offenses to Lemmy Saylor. He is the only person who has the authority to ban players. Flagrant rule violations may result in immediate removal from the game, and, depending on the severity of the incident, ejection from UGL or notification of the BSU administration.

There are several moderators, their information is available on the Moderators page. For each and every mission there will be dedicated moderators on duty. During those missions, call only those moderators. The designated moderators for the night will be indicated in the mission emails. If there is a dispute during the day, try any of the moderators.

Very nicely done you guys. You all have really made good changes in my opinion that make the rules easier to read and fit the needs we have for rules.

One: I appreciate the addition to the rules about affirming whether or not one is playing the game.

Two: You've misspelled "waiver" in the addition for non-BSU players, as well as "Nerf-style" in the addition beneath Optional Equipment. If I spot any more, I'll add to this point.
EDIT: Fixed original post. Thanks! ~Pietre
