What is the purpose of the resume?
Your resume should be designed primarily to secure an interview with an employer.  Resumes do not get people jobs; interviews do.

Should personal information be included on your resume?
Employers cannot legally request photographs and personal information in  pre-employment selection activities.  Personal information on resumes could be used by employers to discriminate against candidates.

Official transcripts
Be sure to have access to the latest copy of your official transcripts.  You may include your GPA in your resume if you consider it to be one of your strongest selling points.  However, GPA's will be listed on your official transcripts, which most employers request.

Career Objectives
A classic mistake made by candidates is to state career objectives that are either too general or to specific to be of much use in pre-employment screenings.  Such objectives often provide the employer with one more method of screening out candidates.  Some career objectives can be better stated in the cover letter, which is personalized for the specific employer.

List of References
Always list the names of references on a sheet separate from the resume for submission when requested.  In many cases, either written letters of reference or telephone contact references can be provided later.  You will have more control over your references if you submit the only when they are requested.

Length of the Resume
Resumes should be short enough to spark interest and long enough to adequately highlight your experience and qualifications.  If you have   significant work history or other relevant experiences, your resume should be longer than that of someone with little experience.

• Resume-writing services generally charge anywhere from $75 to $250 to prepare a resume for a candidate.
• A survey of Fortune 500 human resources directors indicates that 75 percent reported that they receive between 75 and 100 resumes a week.
• When screening resumes, recruiters spend an average of two minutes or less on each resume.
