Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands, Assistant Professor of Music Performance, School of Music

Tenure-track position available August 1, 2010, as a 10-month assignment.  Responsibilities:  direct the "Pride of Mid-America" Marching Band and Basketball Band; conduct the Symphony Band; serve as a liaison with the Ball State University Athletics staff; teach Marching Band Techniques and ancillary courses based on the qualifications of the candidate; assist the Director of Bands in recruitment efforts and overall administration of the band program; engage in scholarly and creative activities; participate in faculty and professional service. 

Minimum qualifications: master's degree; teaching experience directing a contemporary marching band; teaching experience conducting concert bands and/or wind ensembles; ability to write computer assisted marching band drill.  

Preferred qualifications:  doctoral degree; substantial experience with marching band and concert band/wind ensemble at the university level; ability to arrange marching band music.  Excellent benefits, including 100% pension contribution and retiree health care for eligible employees. 

The School of Music is comprised of approximately 400 undergraduate majors, 100 graduate students, and a faculty of more than 70 artists, teachers, and scholars.  The Music Instruction Building, completed in August 2004, provides a state-of-the-art home for BSU's music performance and technology programs.
