Guidance Counselor, Burris Laboratory School

Located on the Ball State University campus, Burris' primary mission is to provide a model clinical setting for a variety of pre-service teacher education programs and to conduct an exemplary K-12 program for its students.  In addition, the school provides for the development, demonstration, and dissemination of effective and innovative teaching practices and supports applied research studies.

Guidance Counselor for High Ability Students.  Contract position available August 14, 2008.  Responsibilities:  provide counseling and guidance services for students with high ability and regular education students; develop and maintain academic plans appropriate to their educational goals; maintain a library of information and provide information meetings for faculty and parents on the special social-emotional and educational needs of students with high ability; conduct group counseling with students with high ability; serve as a liaison between Burris and various community support agencies; work with faculty and staff to facilitate individual student success; identify and supervise graduate student interns in the field of guidance and counseling. 

Minimum qualifications: master's degree in guidance and counseling; hold an Indiana guidance counselor's license.   

Preferred qualifications: graduate work in guidance and counseling related to working with students with high ability; professional work experience as a guidance counselor working with high ability students in a school setting; knowledge of community support systems available to students and their parents.
